Post-High School Career
Coached baseball at Lincoln HS - state champions in 1935, 1936 and 1956 -- and also for many national caliber American Junior Legion baseball teams for the Lincoln area; had a habit of 'saving' a lot of young men in Northwest Portland by encouraging them to get an education, which paid off with many of them becoming doctors, lawyers and educators, because he told them 'they could'.
