4 baseball letters: Honorable Mention All-PIL as freshman pitcjer; 2nd Team All-PIL as a sophomore. All-PIL and All-State as a junior and senior and wins and strikeout leader both years. Named Metro All-Star Series Most Valuable Pitcher.
Post-High School Career
Drafted by the San Francisco Giants; didn’t sign. Went to UC Santa Barbara but injured pitching elbow in his first year.
2 baseball letters at Linn Benton CC, two-time conference champions, 1979-80; played in JUCO World Series both years; named with 1979 team to Linn-Benton Hall of Fame.
Became a race horse owner, 1985-96. Varsity head baseball coach at Colton High School from 1994-2005; 30-year career with Notos Estate Sales in Sherwood.
Commentary
I appreciate the nomination and the election into the PIL Hall of Fame. It is quite an honor. As we all know, the success that we all have achieved isn't without the many efforts by others, who have helped and touched us in so many positive ways and therefore allowed us all to succeed and stand out. I'd like to personally thank my teammates over the years. I know that THEY were the ones that were the most helpful in this achievement
Thanks also go out to all the coaches over the years who were instrumental in their instruction, their dedication and their desire to push me to be better, as an athlete and as a person.
But, special thanks go to my parents. Thanks to my Mom for always being there to drive me around to all the practices and games when I was a youth ballplayer. She saw the fire in my eyes for the love of baseball, and she wanted to avail herself to make my Baseball dreams come true in any way that she could. And thanks to my Dad, for always saying YES to me when I asked him if he would play catch with me. Those are the types of great memories that I will hold dear to me with this Hall of Fame honor.
