Shelby Golden


High School Honors
2-year letter winner in both football and basketball; 4-year letterman in golf, qualifying and playing in the Oregon State Junior Championship tournament in the summers 1931-34.
Post-High School Career
3-year varsity letterman in golf at the University of Oregon, 1938-40; member of the l939 Duck team that won the Pacific Coast Northern Division Golf Championship. Won the Pacific NW Negro Association Golf Tournament, 1952. Until the 1960's he was not allowed to play on many golf courses in Portland because of his race. Shelby's half-brother, Charles Williams, Sr., was inducted in 2014 as well, as a Washington alum, class of 1924. Shelby served many years as a Registered Mail Supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service.
