4-year Wrestling letterman, PIL champion at 168, junior & senior (undefeated regular season); team captain. 3-year Football letterman, 1st team All-PIL, senior; HM all-state, team captain. 3-year Baseball letterman, 1st team All-PIL and HM all-state, senior. Multnomah Club scholar athlete, sophomore year. "One of the best all-around athletes I've coached," said Jerry Lyons.

Oregon State University, Bachelor's degree, 1985; University of Oregon, Master's degree. Engineer in Portland area. Coach in youth baseball 19 years. Enjoy outdoor sports.
Commentary
I learned many lessons from high school sports, all of which have aided me in life's challenges. One in particular I refer to often, particularly when coaching. It originates from my high school coaches pushing us in practice to work harder, harder than our opponents. I interpreted this as: if I want the reward of winning then I must put in the effort required to win. Even more concise and appropriate: effort and reward are linked. The truth is, it doesn't really matter what the reward is, whether it is a diploma, summiting a peak, a career or a relationship, the level of effort will determine the level of reward.
