Overcame infantile paralysis to set many National Swimming Records; Became one of "Cody Kids" swimming for Multnomah Athletic Club since there was no interscholastic swimming competition at the time; By age 16, she held five National AAU records and was voted "AAU Outstanding Female Swimmer"; Olympic dreams were stopped when the Games were cancelled in 1940; in 1942 "Cody Kids" set National 400-yard relay record
