Commentary
Athletics had a profound impact on my life starting from a young age, and through the years that impact evolved from the activity itself to applications outside of sports. Throughout my time in the PIL, I was fortunate to have incredibly dedicated coaches who provided strong guidance that helped build a foundation for my approach to life. Without their commitment to the PIL community, many of the opportunities I was offered in education and career development would not have been possible.
I am incredibly honored to be selected to the PIL Hall of Fame alongside so many talented athletes, and I’d like to recognize a few notable individuals who not only played a role in my success, but also are deserving of special recognition for their overall influence and dedication to Portland high school athletics.
Bill Ranta and Rob Herder deserve an enormous amount of credit for stepping up on short notice and reviving the baseball program at Lincoln High School. Apart from being fantastic coaches and mentors, the circumstances in which they committed themselves to their roles at Lincoln speaks volumes to their character. Jim Coffman and David Adelman were also both incredibly influential in my development and taught me how to compete at a high level with a competitive mindset, and I consider myself extremely lucky to have had them as coaches. And lastly, I’d like to thank Peyton Chapman for her steadfast leadership of Lincoln High School throughout my tenure.
My years at Lincoln are some of the most cherished of my life and I am extremely grateful for my teammates who helped shape my experience and the unwavering support from my parents throughout my athletic career.
