Post-High School Career
Kevin Flink's roots in the PIL run deep and long. Flink got his "feet wet" in sports broadcasting as a student at Wilson High School and a "voice" on Radio KBPS on the Benson campus from 1968 until his Wilson graduation in 1971. He earned his BA in Communications at Washington State University in 1975 and returned to Benson to teach Radio Broadcasting for 32 years and serve as KBPS Operations Manager since 2012. In addition to broadcasting, he's been a public address announcer at Wilson, Benson, Grant, PIL District events, OSAA State events, Portland State University, Pacific University, and professionally for the Portland Beavers, Timbers, and Thorns.In reflection, Flink offers the following advice to students:
- Always be prepared for your assignment;
- If you don’t know the answer, ask;
- You have to work hard to give 100%;
- Stay humble.
The best advice he’s received came from former PIL Athletic Director Ron Pheister: "No one ever bought a ticket to hear a public address announcer."
