Joyce Gago


Post-High School Career
PIL Hall of Fame Merit Award Recipient, 2013
A 1954 graduate of Franklin High School, Joyce Gago volunteered countless hours at her alma mater from 1976 to 1990 and was a part-time employee for Portland Public Schools from 1991-2012.
She served as President of the Quaker Club and PTA; decorated floats for May Fete and Rose Festival (1978-2013).
Joyce coached cheer (20 years) and dance (2 years), worked concessions for football, basketball, baseball, wrestling and highland games and was a founder and board member of the FHS Alumni Association, which has to date donated well over $150,000 for FHS teams, clubs, and projects at the school.
The Portland Interscholastic League Hall of Merit Award (officially renamed the Roy Love PIL Hall of Fame Distinguished Service Award in 2017) celebrates individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to the PIL community and to honoring and preserving the rich history of high school athletics in Portland.
