4 Letters in Football, 1st team All-PIL and league-leading scorer as a Senior.1 letter in Basketball, team's leading scorer as a Senior. 4 letters in Track & Field. PIL dash champion in the 220 three times and 100 two times. Second Oregon prep to run the 100-yard dash in 9.9 seconds. Honored for "highest scholastic achievement" in Portland Schools his Senior year.

Post-High School Career

Scholarship to Stanford University, played Frosh football; touted as one of the top sophomore running backs in the country, but accepted an appointment to the US Naval Academy, where he starred in football and track for three years; set a meet record in the 100-yard dash in the Army-Navy meet in 1943. Career in the family's Pettit Bedding Co. and later started his own Upholstery Felt Co. in Seattle. He died in 1998. Inducted into the Benson Hall of Fame in 2001.
