Outstanding football and baseball athlete; recalled as one of hardest hitting running backs in PIL history; second team All-City as halfback his junior year; led PIL in scoring with 10 touchdowns and four extra points his senior year and was named first team All-City
Post-High School Career
Played football for Willamette University before playing three years at Notre Dame, finishing the 1947 season as a member of the National Championship team; played in 1948 College All-Star game against Chicago Cardinals; his teammates on the all-star team were Johnny Lujack, Bobby Layne and Bump Elliott; played two years professionally with the Chicago Rockets
