High School Honors
4-year letter winner, swam on 3 State championship teams, 1954-56. On State '54 Medley Relay team; 160 Freestyle Relay and 200 Medley Relay in 1955 and 1956; second in 100 Breaststroke as a senior.
Post-High School Career
Graduated from Lewis & Clark in 1961 and swam competitively for the Multnomah Athletic Club. Golf, lap swimming and water aerobics are the main forms of exercise at present.
Commentary
Participating in competitive swimming taught me self-discipline, that it is always possible to improve oneself by setting goals and hard work. And then, as a parent, I looked to swimming to pass on these values to our five children — all of whom were PIL swimmers — and to support them in all their endeavors as my parents had encouraged me.
